If the idea of dressing up in Tudor costumes and doing panto appeals to you, you’ll probably love the activities aboard the Golden Hinde. You can spend a night on the ship, pretending you’re a member of the crew and eating suitably rustic food, or alternatively you could hire the vessel for a pirate-themed kid’s birthday party (or an adult’s, no one is going to judge). In any case, the Golden Hinde is a replica of explorer Sir Francis Drake’s galleon, which became the first ship to sail around the world, a journey that took three years. This reproduction is also a fully functional ship which has clocked up a fair few sea miles, however it’s permanently moored near Clink Street Prison now. It’s large enough for there to be guided tours available, and after exploring the ship’s quarters you can head over to the souvenir shop and buy an inflatable parrot. Tickets are £6 for adults and £4.50 for children, but different prices apply for special events.
