Hi all,
Thought I would add my pennies worth, I worked at Lilley & Skinner 360-366 Oxford Street from
1986-1988 approx, I worked in the Mens department which was at that time in the basement and was adjacent to the main store room. I do remember being shown what was referred to as 'Old Oxford Street' which was accessed through a small door in one of the stock rooms. I dont remember it being fantastic but then again would a 17 yr old find it that interesting? i certainley remember seeing a cobblestone section of street which ended at a brick wall which was really all that was left.

This gets better and better, I think we need to carry out an official All In London field trip to some of these shops and see what we can find :)

Welcome to the site Neil, excellent first contribution

Hi Guys,

Just spotted this and remembered i watched something before christmas about The Pouges Fairytale of New York. I think i remember it saying that the video for the song was shot in the under ground Oxford Street?? Maybe that will help?

I have nothing jmuch to add beyond the fact that I have been fascinated since I heard about it on the Robert elms radio London show years ago. I seem to remember a contributor mentioning that access was behind the CD stores in the HMV basement.

If there is ever a tour COUNT ME IN!!!!

Does anyone fancy starting a separate blog for people to contribute info??? I don't have the skills or I would.

We was discussing about it in work the other day, one of the staff loves all things history and actually worked there. Apparently the reason the public dont see it, is because its now used as a stockroom. Most of it is blocked off so that's why we can't get to it 😐
