Bookcrossing release in Queen Square, London, WC1N - Monday 13th October 2008. I am keen to promote the concept of 'BookCrossing', which is defined as "the practice of leaving a book in a public place to be picked up and read by others, who then do likewise". The term is derived from www.bookcrossing.com, a free online book club which began and encouraged the practice. Their stated goal is to "make the whole world a library". Anyone who wishes to participate in "releasing" books must register on the BookCrossing.com website. Anyone who finds a book has option to make a record of the find on the website and remain anonymous. For full details, go to the Bookcrossing site at www.bookcrossing.com. I'm promoting book releases on Monday 13th October. I aim to leave a book/books on or near the benches at the southern end of the Queen Square Park early in the morning (the nearest tube stations are Holburn or Russell Square). If the weather is wet I usually wrap the books in clear plastic. Time permitting, I will return at about 12.15/12.30 to see if any of my books have been taken, if any others have been left and possibly to meet other Bookcrossers. I will carry a book with the Bookcrossing logo promimently displayed. The logo resembles a book with arms and legs as if it is walking. Please pass this message on to anyone who may be interested. For further information I can be contacted via this site or on 07896 226582. Thanks Plot 49.
I returned to the Square at about 12.15. The book was gone and I hope it is 'travelling'. I hung around for a little while as I had to meet a friend and fellow Bookcrosser. I had a Bookcrossing sign but no one else appeared.
