Coming down for the cup final

Evening folks,

I'm just after a bit of advice about coming down for the FA Cup final in a few weeks, if anyone could help.

Firstly, we're going to heading down from Liverpool on Friday 29th, the day before the game. We're all at odds with each other as to where is best to stay. We're looking at having a night out on the Friday, and some of our group think it would be best to stay somewhere near Wembley, whereas others are thinking to stay more centrally, close to any locations for a decent night out. Any advice?

Secondly, we'll be heading up to Wembley around noon-ish on the Saturday before heading back to Liverpool from Euston after the game. Depending on where our accomodation is, we'll need somewhere to dump our bags while we're at the game. I'm assuming Euston will have storage facilities, but if needs be, is there anywhere around Wembley we could use? As a last option I'm sure we could just ask if we can lash our stuff behind the bar wherever we end up drinking, as we won't have a great deal of luggage with us.

Lastly, we're looking at getting the 19:41 train from Euston, so taking into account extra time and penalties for the match, which should see it finish at 6-6:15pm at the lastest, would that leave us enough time to get back to Euston, taking into account the crowds and traffic etc?

Sorry that's a bit long, any advice is greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Hi Chris,

I'll try and answer as best I can...

You'll need to be central, a night out in Wembley would be a waste when you're so close to central London. Nothing wrong with Wembley of course but it's not the West End. I'd recommend a hotel close to Euston, easy access to central London, easy to get to when you arrive and easy to get to the match the next day.

Yep, they do, I'd recommend leaving the bags there rather than lugging them up to Wembley and back

From the national rail website:
Left Luggage is a secure place where you can leave items of luggage for collection later. The left luggage office is at the top of the ramp to platforms 16 – 18 and is open between 07.00 – 23.00. Please call 020 7387 1499.

Lastly, we're looking at getting the 19:41 train from Euston, so taking into account extra time and penalties for the match, which should see it finish at 6-6:15pm at the lastest, would that leave us enough time to get back to Euston, taking into account the crowds and traffic etc?

The met line tube from Wembley Park to Euston Square takes about 20 minutes. You can then get a bus or walk from Euston Square to Euston Station. You'll want to be at the station for 7:30 at the latest to get your bags so you need to be at Wembley Park getting on a train just before 7. If you leave the ground at 6-6:15 you should be fine. If the match is dull you can always get moving a few minutes early to miss the crowds. If the match is good you'll have to battle the crowds.

Hope that helps, enjoy it.

It can take a good while to get out of the ground, the police filter the crowd to stop crushing, though the tubes to London are very frequent.

Very good point. I don't really know what Wembley's like on match days but I'd guess you'd need to allow a fair bit of time to get to the station and on to the train. I went to the new stadium last year to see the Foo Fighters and the management/flow of people was superb, it's a very well designed space.
