Best London Underground/ Heathrow Express ticket option?

I'll be in London for five days, staying near Paddington Station.
Therefore I thought I should get a Heathrow Express ticket.
I also heard you could buy a combined Heathrow Express and London Underground ticket, though there is no link on either of their sites where I can purchase it in advance or get any sort of details about the price,
the zones and the time frame in which the ticket is valid.

Could anyone give me an advice on which ticket I should purchase and where to get it?

You cant, as far as Im aware, get a combined Express and Travel Card ticket.

The Express is quick and gets you right to your hotel, but costs £10 more than the Travel Card. Its really a choice of convenience getting to and from Heathrow. While around London use a Travel Card for all other journeys.

There is also the Heathrow Connect option which takes a bit longer than Heathrow express but is a bit cheaper. The Heathrow express is quite expensive and should only be used if your company is paying of if you are in a big hurry to get to Paddington.

Hmmm... so I guess I'll have to bite the big one and pay for a 7 Day Travel Card, even though I'm only in London for 5 days.

Isn't there a cheaper option for just the Underground Tube, which covers all regions?

Well if you are only going to be traveling about mostly in central London, I would suggest buying a 7 day Travelcard for Zones 1 & 2 only. If you have to go outside those zones you can always puchase a Zone extension to the zone that you need (at a ticket window). If an Underground staff member is checking tickets when you get off a train, simply present your travelcard plus the extension card that you are given.

This strategy should help you pay only for zones that you are using and in the process should save you some fare money.

Thanks mistakenplane and Jez the Yank!

I will follow the advice as follows:

Go from Heathrow to Paddington by Heathrow Connect by buying a one day Zones 1-6 ticket.
But a three day pass the next day for Zones 1-2
Buy another Zones 1-6 ticket on the fifth day to travel back from Paddington to Heathrow taking the Heathrow Connect again.

Should be cheaper than a week's ticket.
