I need some help here. I'm on my 3rd Bonsai Tree now, the bloody things just keep drying up and dying no matter where I put them and how many times I water them.

Does anyone else have them? I'd really like to know how to keep them alive for more than a month!

Any help appreciated.

Have you got The Karate Kid on DVD?
Mr Miyagi performs a Bonsai masterclass for Daniel-san. I think everything you need to know will be there.

Good luck Mog-san.

All I know is they're very hard to keep alive and look after. My dad's kept dying, too

Bonsai trees are so difficult to keep. Here are some tips I've used & had bonsai's alive for years - as soon as I moved they died though - Bonsais don't like being moved around - they hate it in fact.

The main thing that kills bonsais is water type. London = really hard water so catch rain water & give them that, they love that.. also, don't pour, spray, if you put too much water in 1 blast on the soil then it swamps the routs & they can't drink, they're such fragile things.

See how that start goes and good luck, it's a tough but rewarding hobby!

Wow, fantastic, thank you for sharing.

I'll give it a try and post pictures up here so you can see how it's going.

AIL Staff, maybe we should start a TheMog's Bonsai blog, or maybe a Bonsai club :)

UPDATE:

I've moved the Tree to a more shaded location and started to spray a fine mist of water on it rather than watering the roots. It does seem to be looking healthier already.

Fingers crossed.

My other half always tries (in vain!) to keep a Bonsai - all I end up with is loads of dead leaves to clear away. I'll pass on your tips and hopefully have less cleaning to do soon!

I don't get how they all start off looking so good in the shops - surely they've been transported to death by the time they get there so you'd think they'd look terrible based on Angieang's advice above.... :-?
