Stand up at the Pipeline

The Pipeline isn’t just a rock bar, it’s a funny rock bar. We proudly present the first of two stand up nights this autumn.

On the 13th October four comedians, with David Whitney as skipper, will lead the audience through an evening of guaranteed laughter. David Whitney is best known for the BAFTA winning TV series Fonejaker, a high energy mix of satire and filth.

"One thing is certain: that he’s got a well-defined sense of comedy which – when delivered with the impassioned hard sell he gives to all his routine – guarantees laughs. There is certainly a genuine spirit of fun in his set," (Chortle) Sep 2007

"you can't stop him, you can only hope to contain him" (Reg D. Hunter)

"His trajectory is perfect. He squeezes the laughter out of audiences. He is the squeeze person." (Eddie Izzard)

Kate Smurthwaite has been performing comedy since 2004 and has been featured on BBC1, BBC Radio 4, BBC Radio 5, Sky TV and many other stations. She has taken three solo shows to the Edinburgh Fringe and performed at several comedy festivals in Britain as well as in Europe and across the US. She also features in a forthcoming pilot for Channel 4 and Comedy Central US. Kate is the resident compere at the Soho Comedy Club in central London and the host of The Comedy Manifesto, Britain's most popular live topical panel show.

"A powerhouse of observational wit" The Spectator

"Comedy that cuts through the crap" **** ThreeWeeks

"Spectacular ... brilliant humour" **** Edinburgh Guide

In August 2008, Tobias Persson was awarded best male comedian at the Swedish stand up gala in Stockholm. The motivation was: "With an incredible amount of energy and frenzy this man spreads his jokes and punch lines to his ever growing audience. With his boyish good looks he sows very sharp but subtle comedy seeds which he harvests immediately."

Lasse Nilsen is guaranteed to be most visual stand-up comedian in Sweden and perhaps the rest of Europe. His body control is so amazing that the audience, at times only sits and stare with their mouths open. Lasse has been doing stand up for about 10 years and if there ever was a sure bet on the comedy scene, Lasse is it.
