hello all
I was perusing around the site here and haven't really noticed anything on pets.
My husband and I will probably be moving to London in a year or so and we have two dogs and a cat. I know how to get them over on the plan but am a little curious about moving my pets around once we get there?
and any other useful info about pet life in the city.

thanks for the input

Do you mean getting them from the airport to your new place?

I'm not sure how many taxis are accompdaring for three animals. I guess it depends if they're little terriers or great danes!! Interesting question. Not sure how helpful I can be.

Are you planning on renting or buying a place too? Cause if renting don't forget to check if the landlord is ok with pets. Though that's probably obvious :)

Good advice. I'm sure that you could find a cab company who would be willing to transport the pets in a suitable vehicle.

Failing that have you looked at international pet moving services? Would take the stress out of it all.

If you live in West London I used a fantastic walking/boarding service. Urban Tails. They are WONDERFUL and I highly recommend them.

Thanks guys that will be helpful I hadn't thought of a cab. I didn't want to have to rent a car although we may have to do that anyway. The dogs are 27 Kg and 9 Kg and the cat is 4 Kg so two of them are small. The big one is a puppy though but hopefully won't be doing too much more in the growing department.
We aren't sure yet where in London we'll live but I'll try to look up that service cause I'm sure we'll need some type of boarding at some point.

I have looked at international pet moving services before but I fell like i can do just as good a job and my pets won't have to be cared for by soo many strangers. It will be a stressful enough process for them already. I am planning to take the two smaller animals in cabin with me but the big one has to go as checked baggage no choice that or cargo.
I've already done a ton of looking and we aren't planning this for about a year or so. With pets though everything takes a little more planning.
I'd rather have them though than be without.

Oh and what are the pet stores like?
Are they like smaller local owned stores or are there big chain stores too?
I just want to know what I can expect to find or what to look for when I am doing my searching for potential job places. I also happen to work in the pet industry too.

Cool. When I get home I'll find some links for you re pet stores. We have both big chains and small businesses. You're more likely to cone across the small ones but depending on where you move to you should be in driving distance of a big one should you need it.

The biggest chain I can think of are called Pets At Home, and they're massive ones. I go there to pick up food for my hedhehog for example. So they cover a lot.

The smaller stores can order things in for you though should you require anything specialist.

I'd love to work in a pet store.

Thanks that will help a lot.
Most of my experience is actually working in a kennel caring for people's pets while they are on vacation. I am going to be starting an apprenticeship to be a dog trainer soon though. That's what I want to be really. But I'll settle for working in kennels and pet stores for now till I learn the skills I need.

Why a hedgehog? Do they make good pets?

I gots the hedgehog cause he's cute. They make good pets depending on hte personality of them. Mine's a very grumpy one, so he's not often accomodating when you want to hold him. But when he's in a good mood, he's very active and cute.

I got a thing for 'different' animals. Though I'd love to have a pug.

Didn't get a chance to post that link last night - will do it this evening.
