Have you looked into what kind of travel visa you will need. Most that I have found so far require that anyone applying has had an English course or can pass an exam to earn enough points. Or that you come from a place where English is the main language. I don't know all the parameters fora student visa yet though if you are planning to attend a university or college that may be a little different.

yeah for a degree in English you need to speak the language already. Unless he means to learn English. When that's not a degree or anything but just a course I guess.

That's what they probably mean which may mean that a student visa may work but you still have to be able to understand enough to learn from the course. Which they use to determine the visa is all I can gather.
