Hi all

I just want to know what your feelings are where you would rather want the government to invest money...

The third runway debate at Heathrow has created quit a stir. Apparently members from the British Chamber of Commerce believe the goverment should rather cut budgets for education, health and wellfare and not on transport infrastructure. Primarily because infrastructure will give more back to the economy and create more jobs.

What do you think? Is it okay that we drop our education and health levels so much more in order to provide construction jobs?

Is there something I am missing?

Wherever the goverment invests public money there will (should) be benefits to the population. Just because the economy grows it doesn't mean the population will be better off, infact the recent massive expansion of the UK economy has resulted in a gap between rich and poor people widening.

The other argument of course is that by reducing spending on these projects there is more money to spend elsewhere and hence less need to grow the economy.

Swings and roundabouts.

You make a good point. But it is unnerving to hear that areas will be cut where improvement is needed rather. Can you imagine how expensive health and education will become if more cuts are implemented...especially seeing as 900mil will already be cut.
I'm just scared the gov will do what they think will make them more popular during the election and the random guy on street will need to pay for that choice!
