Please help, I am a New Zealander trying to do a suprise cockney christmas for my sister in laws birthday. We have the meal sorted turkey in bacon roast veges etc. I am looking for the words to the cockney version of 12 days of christmas and would be grateful if you could help, including any traditional games, gifts and decorations.

Thank you in advance!

I didn't know there was a Cockney version of that song, I tried googling it but all I came up with was your question on here:(

Perhaps you could write your own, that's what I would do :geek:

As for traditional food, I think of cockles, mussels and jellied eels. Maybe food that goes with well known cockney rhyming slang such as apples and pears will also go down well. But, in my opinion, themed food is never important, whereas good food always is. If you give people something they like and make an effort to ensure they enjoy themselves then it will work out well.

All the best

Agree with Square.

You can't really do this without one of these costumes:

but jellied eels is quinessential cockney - much more than a traditional christmas dinner, which is a general British thing.

Cockney food is pie, mash and liquer (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pie_and_mash), jellied eels, cockles (for some reason sea food features a lot)...

Those costumes are Pearly Kings and Queens (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pearly_King). You still get them at local carnivals and festivals.

i'd recommend some cockney songs. Don't know anything about a cockney 12 days of christmas but there are definitely some cockney tunes out there. You can download some, or I'm sure find some on Spotify such as...
My Old Man's a Dustman
Knees Up Mother Brown (lol my mum and nan sing this one)
Daisy Daisy
Lambeth Walk
Rol Out The Barrell

Here's the wiki page for cockney in general http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cockney
