@15 are now offering a 50% discount for up to 10 people as a way to demonstrate their corporate and social responsibility. By partnering with Carbon Free Dining (http://www.carbonfreedining.co.uk) they are taking part in an initiative which is backed by the United Nations Billion Tree Campaign. This means for every diner that claims the 50% discount voucher a tree is planted to offset the carbon associated with the production, preparation and transportation of the meals ingredients. To claim the 50% off and help the environment visit http://bit.ly/9jmu3h . The carbon footprint of a meal is between 10kg and 30kg, yet in the lifetime of a tree it will offset about 1000kg of carbon.

Is this a worthwhile offer or simply a gimmick? If it is a gimmick does it matter as long as trees are being planted?

A gimmick in what sense? Are they trying to attract interest and generate publicity? Probably. Are they trying to deceive the public? I don't know, do you think they are?

Well there you go, I think you've answered your own question!

Agreed - it's a win-win here, but having said that I notice they aren't actively trying to reduce the average carbon footprint of their meals; maybe that would be a more effective contribution to reducing the restaurant's environmental impact, but I guess it doesn't grab the headlines in quite the same way :confused2:
