So be it a traditional east end boozer for a good old cockney singalong or a posh west end gastro pub - what would you say are the essential ingredients of a really good London hostelry?

Definitely has to have clean toilets for the girls and draft beers for the boys

Good location, beer garden, good selection of beers, nice enough to attract a decent crowd but not too nice to be full of suits and trendys.

I think that's the official description as used by CAMRA :)

I think the ambiance and the music defines a perfect London club.

Agree with Soozie, clean toilets are essential)))

Also some good sorts of beer (it's not necessary to have 20 sorts of beer to impress the public, including cherry or lemon or chocolate beer), there may be only 5 sorts, but there should be the one special beer, that is fresh and really good and people would go for it from the other side of the town and bring friends there to try it ('I've been receintly to a nice place, there's the sort of beer you can find nowhere else in London. I'll take you there - you should certainly try it!' - this is how it works with a good pub).
Also - some good snacks welcomed. Not just chips, nuts and salty sticks, but chicken winglets, sausages and so on.
Furniture! Couches are more welcomed than an uncomfortable wooden chair.
As for music - it shouldn't be too loud. No bright light. And better no smoke at all - even the smokers can't stand it.

That's about how I see it.
