Bonjour Paulin,
I was a student who studied in London for a year back in the 90's. One of the best things I ever did to meet people and make friends was to join the International Students House or ISH as it is called. If you want you can live there as a student studying there or do as I did and join as an outside member. They have many clubs to join (Travel Club, movie club, etc) a cafe and pub area, a fitness center, and nightly activities. I used to go to play table tennis, squash, learn Ballroom dancing and Sciottish dancing. To this day I still have friends from there who I am in contact with.
I would strongly encourage you to give it a try as it will surely enhance your London expereience and will instantly give you access to students from all over the world.
It is located at 229 Great Portland Street. Take the underground to either Regent's park (on the Bakerloo line) or Great Portland St. (on the Circle, Metropolitan or Hammersmith and City lines). The first time you go I would probably use the Great Portland St. tube stop as ISH is just accross the street from there.
Here is thw website for ISH.

Dont miss out on taking advantage of this opportunity as it is invaluable.
Sincerely,
-Jeremy
