2011 Season

Developed and run by Maddy Wynne-Jones, the Highgate Ballet School Youth Dance Company offers young dancers the opportunity to rehearse and perform on a regular basis, as well as work with professional dancers in an exciting and inspiring environment.

Who is it for?
The Highgate Ballet School Youth Dance Company is for dedicated dancers aged 10 and up, who take at least two dance classes a week. It is for dancers interested in performing and rehearsing different styles of ballet, pushing themselves physically to reach their goals and learning about the professional world of dance. Young dancers involved in the company will be encouraged to develop their personal strengths through the demanding and rewarding rehearsal periods and performances throughout the year. In the 2009/2010 Season the company performed at The Richmond Festival of Performing Arts, Sadler’s Wells Lilian Baylis Theatre, Dance for Life at Arts Depot Theatre, and their own season finale performance at Jacksons Lane theatre.

Rehearsals
Intensive rehearsal periods will take place during the half-terms and holiday times. This ensures full commitment without getting in the way of regular class and academic work. A schedule for the 2010/2011 season is included. Occasionally additional rehearsals will be organised if, for example, a performance falls during a time when the company has not rehearsed for a while. We will endeavour to give you as much warning as possible for these additional rehearsals, and try to accommodate everyone’s availability.

Commitment
Dancers wishing to be involved in the Youth Dance Company will have to prove their commitment. The company will be run with a professional dance company mentality and outlook. It is therefore necessary for every dancer in the company to be taking at least two dance classes a week during regular term times, and that no rehearsal period is missed without permission. If you are invited to join the company you will have to commit to the entire year, and be at every rehearsal period unless prior agreement has been arranged with Maddy. Dancers will also be required to come to rehearsals ready to work hard and be dedicated to the process. Whether students are interested in a career in dance or not, the self-discipline, motivation, and sense of accomplishment achieved through rehearsals and performing are invaluable to personal development; growth, technique and artistic awareness will be supported and nurtured by the company. Dancers also have to commit to our regular fundraising efforts, profits from which buy the costumes for performances and keep the fees for the Youth Company as low as possible.
