Concert Photography

OK so the amount of times I've had my SLR taken off me at music venues is just getting ridiculous now haha...

Can anyone tell me some good smaller venues that will allow me to photograph artists with my SLR. I'm from Luton and there's not a single decent music venue in this town.

Just incase you're interested, here's some photos I've managed to get by sneaking in my SLR. I could do so much better if I didn't have to hide from security when taking the photos so I don't get caught with my camera lol.

I'm not just looking for venues where famous artists will perform although if there any that would allow my slr in that would be great although I very much doubt it. I'm going to uni in Leicester in September, maybe I can find something up there.

Is it possible to get an SLR that looks like more like a regular digital camera? Or do they not allow those, either? I think it's silly.

I only have cameras that use detachable lenses so it probably is a better idea to get a decent compact. I'm not sure what ones are up to SLR standard without spending megabucks though.
