Hi all,

I'm about to move to London from Dublin to take a job in Canary Wharf. I'm not sure if it would be better to live around Canary Wharf or in the centre, W1, W2. From looking at the prices, they look quite the same (and expensive!) for a studio or 1 bed. But living in the city will add about £100 commuting + at least 25 minutes ride. OTOH, is canary wharf dead at night? this might be a bit depressing. Anyways, looking for your advice!

P.S. is there anywhere safe to look for a flat? I get the feeling that gumtree and craigslist are full of scammers...

Have to admit I don't know Canary Wharf that well, but my impression is that it was pretty dead in terms of nightlife a few years back, but it was soared im popularity and therefore the bars and restaurants have followed the people. I've heard Wapping is supposed to be good (for those that can afford it!).

In terms of letting/buying somewhere, I've always gone through agents (without any problems) or are you looking for a flatshare? I guess you'll only be scammed if you're not aware of the tricks, so go in with your eyes open and you should be fine.

Good luck!!
