Hi all again,

As well as beign an actor I would also like to film produce and direct. I intend to go to university next year to study Film Production And Technology.
I have been looking for work experience but places such as Pinewood aren't offering filming or pre/post-production experience.
Does anyone know of any film production companies that can offer any work experience? I will be extremely grateful!

Hi Brad!

I'm sure plenty do if you search around. You may need to look into TV production though, like ITV. I think they offer work experience.

Try Working Title, I know they do something called "Action", a paid year internship, but you need to have experience in working in an office... for some reason... They may do work experience as well.

When I worked on HP, there were two girls there who were on work experience. So it can happen with the big production companies. You just need to research who they are and get writing! Phone, email, write. Do it!

Ciao.

Hi Aly!,

Ah I get you! Hmm do you reckon working in your local library counts? ;)
I have emailed 3foot7 inc. (the people that are running the jobs and stuff of The hobbit films) for work experience but after a week I haven't heard anything back so I may send another email in the next few days if I do not hear anything.

Thanks for the advice!!! :) It is much appreciated!

Go to the Working Title website and click on Action and read all about it :) Here's the link: http://www.workingtitlefilms.com/action

Don't email them again, get their number and ring them! Ask to be put through to the production office for The Hobbit, once through tell them that you have recently emailed them about work experience on the set and you are just following it up. You need to be persistant.

No probs :)

All the best!

Hey :) They currently do not have a phone number for the public. So its currently email all the way. Well the person I am talking to (Dale) is in the production office, and New Zealand is 11 hours ahead, but because I cannot call them as htere is no phone number, I will just pester them through email till I get a number or a job! They can't give me work experience and to get onto the set and work, I would have to stay for the duration of the 18 months worth of production left. But yeah I am being persistent, thanks!!!

I will keep you notified as to how it goes!!! :)

Have you had a reply then? Ask Dale if there is a number he can ring you on if he'd prefer you to ring him. You need to make him aware how keen you are and that you are serious.
If you stay for the duration, you will pretty much be working for them, so may get paid.

I had a reply which cited all of my problems such as visas and stuff. They said they dont have any trainee or internship positions as well and i couldnt do work experience because they would train me up and then lose me after a few weeks, so I have put forward that I am available for the whole project (I would have to leave college and defer my university entry). My parents have said I should go for it and not give in till they give me a place. I sent him an email last night with some video projects I had done, showing them that Iam serious but it took him a week to reply to the first one, so I don't know how long it will be before he replies again. I should have done that really. I will be calling at 11 - 12 o'clock at night as they are 11 hours ahead but if it gets me the job then I will do what I must. Well the working holiday visa says that I have to be paid $350 a week if Iam to stay for 12 months to keep up with living expenses. So in effect they would have to pay me.

Oo, sounds promising. At least they are responding and are aware how keen you are. Your parents are right. Keep on at them! Let us know how it goes! Eeeek!

The 2nd AD for Anna Karenina said we should hook up in the new year. I will be contacting him that first week! I have another Panto performance on 7th Jan and I was phoned up before Christmas by Uni-versal extras to do a stand in job for a Scarlot Johansson film, Under Her Skin. It's only for one day, but hopefully I will be doing that in Jan. Tis looking good :)

Apparently someone named wenwenzi has commented on this forum but I cannot find the comment, has it been deleted? If it has its a shame as I would have liked to have seen the comment

Just sent an email out to Pinewood, to see if I can get a job there. You know, start up as a runner, then work through the company in various other areas. :)

If they do I will take it :) (I only live about an hour away (though I can't drive :/ ))

I can always get the train or rent out somewhere. But this is in place just in case The Hobbit stuff fails.
