Tube Smells

I hate the smells that people carry with them or create on tubes... body odour, smelly air releases, night-before curry, obvious hang-over odours and greasy hair on people below my head-height are all particularly offensive examples... don't suppose anyone has thought of any effective neutralizers/antidotes?

I used to work as a sales rep in London and had to use the tube alot - I know exactly what you mean.

I'd spend most of my day going from account to account with somebody's armpit shoved in my face as they hold onto the overhead handrail to stop them from falling over.

Summer was especially nasty as there was a lot more sweat coating each armpit.
Eurrgghh! Angry

I take it you've also noticed the compulsion people feel to fart while on the esculator? Perhaps I just have an over sensitive nose, but it seems that nearly every week it happens that someone lets one off as I'm whizzing past on the way to work. But lets look on the bright side - if that's all there is to moan about, then London is a pretty wicked place by my standards...

Hi Susanna,
The only antidote that I can think of would be for the media to promote better hygeine in people. I am also highly offended by the bodily odours of some of the least clean people that use the tube and often get off and take a bus because it gets so bad.

Glad it isn't just me then! Had another great example today (though not odour-related!)... a bloke clipping his nails was sat opposite me on the Bakerloo line today - poor girl next to him actually had some bits land on her lap - nice.

I'm an ex street sales rep, well what can I say my advice, clench your hand in a fist and hold over your mouth in a coughing position so your index finger discretely blocks your nostrils.

Happy Travels

I wear an oxygen mask. The air is vile and so are the people in the tube carriages.
