The keffiyeh or as the British military call it- the shemagh is an Arabic headscarf worn mainly in the Levant-Syria, Lebanon, Jordan and Palestine. Its popularity first started in France because of the country's sympathy towards the Palestinian cause. I started seeing it slowly in France and them in Germany all the kids were wearing it as a political message. Though when I ask people who are wearing the scarf 'What is your position on the Arab-Israeli conflict?' they dismiss the Arabs and the Palestinian cause! I could relate this to someone wearing a Nazi outfit to work, but saying 'I despise what Hitler stood for'

mmm I see where you're coming from, but the Shemagh has been worn for years...way before the Arab Israeli conflict. Its a staple of the British SAS - particulary in WWII. Maybe the recent fashion started as a political nod; but fashion and politics have little in common. As a teenager i wore german surplus army jackets (as did every other student) i would have been mortified if anyone thought i was a nazi!! Sharing textiles and cultural accessories doesn't have to be political. the SAS used it to keep cool and kids today use it to look cool. go figure.

Let me guess form who and for who is this message, mmmm... :speechless: The word "shemagh" is an arabic world which is a sort of fabric used in hot countries in the Middle East and also in North Africa and then by the British and French militaries when they were in some arabic countries years ago, it kept them cool from the hot sun.
Its popularity simply started in all the Western and Easten conuntries that are against the occupation of Palestine and not only as a fashionable accessory, the whole world knows that. I don't see the point of your message and why it bothers you to see people wear it, and why should we juge people by their look, there are more serious matters. Yes, like you said above, there are some people indeed don't seem to understand the doctrine of the "Shemagh". ;)
