Hey everyone,

first of all thanks for taking the time to read this. You probably get the exact same questions thirty-five times a day so I'll understand if I only get an half-assed reply Wink

That said, I am thinking of moving to London in the next few weeks. I'm a 24 yo guy and am very confused on where to look for a house and also if it's worth me going in a flatshare or rent (what the hells is the difference anyway...).

Also, I'm a really easy going guy, but I do need to live in a nice area in which I'm not going to be scared to go out at night. I went down to Clapham (common side) to have a look at a few houses, but the area was not the best. It's not bad, but I would prefer something a little bit nicer looking too. I was staying in Maida Vale briefly a few months ago and that looked very nice.

Anyway, any advice greatly welcome.

Have a nice day!

Hi there,

If Clapham Common didn't look good to you then I'd advise that you stay away from South London as that's about as good as it gets that side of the river.

Maida Vale is very nice but potentially a little bit boring depending on what you want from an area. Notting Hill is very nice, although very expensive aswell. I'd stay away from Islington and East Central areas as they're a bit Clapham-esque.

Areas I'd recommend you have a look at:

Maida Vale
Notting Hill
West Hampstead
Hampstead
Belsize Park
St John's Wood
Fulham & Chelsea

Out of all of those I'd recommend having a good look around West Hampstead - nice area, young professional crowd, lots of good pubs/bars/restaurants.

Depending on your situation I'd always advise to get on the property ladder in London if you're able to. Otherwise rent you're own place over flat sharing.

Hope that's of some use.

Hey,

thanks for the quick reply. I've tried to look some info up on those areas but it looks like its pretty hard to get some actual non-"salsey" info... Any idea of any websites which describe, preferably through user comments, the different areas in London?

Thanks again peeps in advance.

Ummmm, it's quite difficult to find user reviews of areas - most reviews are for bars/restaurants/hotels.

This site has a London Regions section that has some info on the areas, other than that what about upmystreet.com ?

Cheers
