Islington to be there, or not to be?

Hi people,

Can someone tell me if Islington is a nice place to stay, and if it is far from the Centre of London.

Any ideas on places to stay within zone 2 for no more than 40 pound a night?

If you're looking for a lively part of London then Islington is a good option. If you want someone quieter/cleaner I'd suggest you look west of Islington to areas like St John's Wood, Maida Vale, Notting Hill, Hampstead, Belsize Park.

I'm not sure you'd get much more than a hostel room at that price though in most central areas.


Islington isn't very far from town at all, the tube into the West End would take around 10 minutes (from Angel station).

I do so envy you living there, as Islington is my favorite place in London, if it wasnt so expensive I would live there in the blink of an eye, its just a lovely area with something for everyone

So when you say expensive what kind of money would someone spend per day, if eating normally and living in share accomm? I am quite curious because in Oz I live pretty well, and don't have to spend a fortune. I would say I spend about $300-400 a week - not including accommodation.

Any suggestions re, going out? I love niteclubs and bars. I actually went to a club in Angel when I was last in London, but tht was some years ago now...
