The singer and her husband, Guy Richie are trying to adopt a one-year old boy, David Banda, who is now living in an orphanage. His mother died after childbirbirth complications but his father is still alive. He has agreed to the adoption.
But a group of Malawian charities say that the adoption is illegal. They are going to challenge the adoption in court. They say that anyone who wants to adopt a child must stay in the country for at least 18 months.
Childless couples are watching in envy at the speed of the adoption for the pop star.
But some critics say that it is too easy for wealthy people to adopt children.
Madonna has said that she will donate about 3 million dollars to help 900,000 orphans in Malawi. She and her husband have travelled to the region to help fight poverty and the problem of HIV and Aids.
