Working in Islington - where will we live?! Welwyn opinions please!

I have been offered a job in Islington, and am very excited about 'doing London' for a few years. However, my partner and I have a 10 month old baby so we're a little concerned that moving into central London wouldnt be ideal.

I've been looking on this site at some of the recommended areas and to be honest they are all way too expensive. So we've decided on somewhere outside of London with a commute. Does anyone have any particular recommendations?

I'll be honest, we're kind of keen on Welwyn Garden City. It looks a bit greener and has more houses (less flats) than some of the suburban areas. Its also much much cheaper which is ringing alarm bells in my head. (but making my change jingle in my wallet!)

Obviously we will be making a few trips up to check out various areas before any decisions are made but if anyone has any opinions on Welwyn or other suggestions of niceish affordable suburbs please do pass them on!
