Hello everyone,

Greetings from Oxford, UK. Happy

I am quite new to this board. I am a graduate from Oxford University and have got a job in Canary Wharf, London. I start from Oct 1 and am looking for an apartment (flat) to rent.

Any suggestions on nearby places to look/avoid? Basically I don't mind upto 30 minutes travel, but would love a relatively cheap, safe, family setup. I am not that much of a bar/clubbing person, and am looking away from Zone 1.

Any general advise on the flat search would also be greatly appreciated, since I am kinda new to UK!

Hi Sampath78, welcome

Oxford??? That's up north somewhere isn't it? :smug:

Have you thought about living east of Canary Wharf?

There are lots of developments/flats in areas like: East India, Canning Town, Poplar etc.

See the stations on the map here:

These areas are quite popular with Canary Wharf types :) One of my friends had a flat near East India tube in a new tower block whilst he was working for CitiBank in CW, the flat was very nice, great views of the rivers etc.

Failing that there are lots of areas in West London with easy access to the City via Waterloo, Bank or any station on the Jubilee line. I know CW workers who live in Maida Vale/St John's Wood, this is a very nice area, travel to CW on the tube would take around 40 minutes.

Also, further east try places like Greenwich, good access to the City, better house prices (although not much) and a very nice area.

Hope that's of some use, if you need any more info please ask away.
