I'm not sure when it happened really, but people no longer bother to queue for buses and wait their turn to get on. As soon as the doors open, there is an almighty rush and much pushing and jostling. Don't people who have arrived last at the bus stop realise they are not entitled to get on the bus first? Very Angry

This annoys me too!!! grrrr!!!

as well as waiting nicely at the actual bus stop, only for the bus to pull in a few meters before or after the actual stop and hence allowing other people to board first.

humph!

Indeed! There was a time when those people would have waited for those at the front of the queue to board first: not any more it seems. Interestingly, I noticed when I visited my (small) home town recently, that bus queue etiquette still exists.

I hated this when I lived in central London. No-one seems to understand the concept of queueing for a bus, it's a joke on Oxford street.

I completely gave up on buses after I wasn't allowed to get on the bus as I hadn't paid a for a ticket from the machine (which was broken) - apparantly I should have walked to the next one (which was 400 metres away). It was a cold, rainy Sunday night and I'd just walked for over 30 minutes from Euston station after a really bad/late train journey.

I think that was the moment I gave up on public transport and bought a car. I'd rather pay through the nose and sit in traffic jams in my own air-conditioned environment with my own music rather than put up with the transport system.

It really depends on time and location, however. Queues can exist on most of the 134 Route to Tottenham Court Road stops. Oxford Street is just insane at this time of the year anyways, so the chance of it being queued up 'properly' is slim to none.

I haven't found much of a reason to 'give up' on Public Transportation, it hasn't failed me yet. I've experienced similar situations as you, Mogwai. The only thing is, I kind of expected it due to the signs they typically have up at stops that have machines nearby ("Please have your ticket before boarding the bus"). Some of the buses don't have their ticket machines operable at times to cut the amount of time spent dispensing tickets to those who where unable/too lazy to purchase them their selves. The worse experience I had with that was two local ticket machines having ate my £3.50 without giving me a ticket - my only resort was to find a shop that handled bus tickets/Oyster/etc.

Public transportation is nicer than most, so it's alright - just some of us aren't as patient as the other. The only time I really have too much problem out of it is tube-based. Attempting to catch *any* Northern Line tube between the hours of 8am to 11:30am is next to impossible; but that's a totally different debate altogther.
