Having been stuck at home with a twisted ankle, just finished creating a version of the Google customised search engine for London.

Check it out at http://Londoogle.com

One of the cool things you can do is have a team of moderators enabled to add / delete websites to the customised search engine - drop me a line or click the link on the website if you are interested in having a go.

Also interested if you find the search results from Londoogle.com any better than using regular Google.co.uk!

Cheers,

Jon

Interesting idea :)

How does the add/delete websites from the search engine work? I would have thought Google would be opposed to "tinkering" with the results they provide?

Hi Mogwai,

Thanks for the question.

The site is built using Google's custom search engine which they have designed for exactly this purpose - building variants of the vanilla Google search to give more precise search results for a specific interest - London in this case!

The underlying Google system does not get changed, however, websites that our London Experts [Londooglians ] select are given a higher priority in the search results.

Personally, I think it makes a real improvement - try searching for flights for example on regular Google and then compare it to Londoogle.com

Have tweaked the design and added some sites over the last day ... now need all you London experts there to chip in and load up the best examples of London websites that you are aware of at http://Londoogle.com ... we now are also live with http://NewYoogle.com and http://Bangaloogle.com !
