Hi there, my name is Anthony, this is my first time on the forum, so a big hello to all!

My girlfiend and myself are moving to London from Leighton Buzzard at the end of next month and i have found some great properties to rent in my budget situated in Archway. However i have visited this area a couple of times and it looks pretty dodgy... considering its close to Highgate.

Am i right or should i give it a chance? i love the fact its on the northern line and one stop to Camden.

In terms of budget, Ealing and Acton looks realistic, but we want to live in zone 2, pretty much any stop on the northern, jubilee and district lines.

The thing that worries me the most is finding a job, i have several fork lift truck licences and bags of Warehouse/Goods in/Despatch experience. Will i be able to find a job for abour £9ph or more?

Any rental agencies or job agencies suggestions would be great

A big thanks to anyone who can help

Anthony

Hey Anthony! Welcome to the boards :)

I'm afriad I don't live in London and don't know it that well so can't tell you much about it. But I'm sure there's people on here who will be able to help you.

Hi Anthony!

I'm afraid I don't know much about fork lift trucks but I have lived in London and know Archway a bit...

Obviously it's not the most desirable area around, however I'm not sure that it's any worse than many other central London areas including Islington and Clapham (which are very popular). I haven't heard about it being particularly bad for crime and I know a few people who live there and near there and they have never complained.

I think the benefits outweigh the downsides as long as you are happy to put up with the look of the place (i.e. slightly shoddy!)...it's so close to Hampstead Heath which is beautiful ..

Hope you manage to get some more info from some others to help you make up your mind!

thats a very good point there, Hampstead is a very nice setting and i love Camden for the bars and markets.
i'm off work tomorrow to search for employment in London. I'll stop there again and give it another go.

That has made me think twice

Thanks

I've not really heard much about Archway good or bad. It's not a bad location really and is close to some nice areas.

I'd recommend you take a trip there and have a walk around. You'll know how you feel when you're walking around the place... don't listen to what people tell you good or bad, just get a feel for the place by spending some time there. You'll work out pretty quickly whether or not you could live there.

Good luck, and welcome to London
