hey new to the forum and im moving to london in septemeber, i need to be south of the river and would like to know which areas to try and avoid. Ive heard things about peckham and brixton which i dont like the sound of. ideally somewhere around putney (basically i need to be roughly half way between twickenham and greenwich) anyone have any reccomendations or warnings? (not expecting anything to posh jus dont want to be suroounded by scallys) much appreciated

putney is really nice but can be pricey. how about southfields for somewhere nice but a bit quieter or earlsfield for somewhere a bit more lively but not quite as 'pretty'? earlsfield and southfield should be a bit better value for money than putney i would have thought. you're right to steer clear of peckham and brixton though in my opinion... hope you find somewhere nice :)

Barnes is really nice. Maybe my favourite area of London although possible not as well connected.... there's only overland rail - no tube; bus services are good though.

Alternatively take a look at Richmond and Putney (near to Putney) as Sooz suggested.

Clapham's OK too (although maybe a little "try-hard" for me :) )

Be certain to steer clear of Brixton. There be monsters!

have a good move to London.
