Annoying things that restaurants do...

I took the current wife to a not inexpensive restaurant last night, and we had a 3 course 'fixed price menu'.

Except the price wasn't fixed at all, because none of the main courses came with vegetables, and none of the main courses were actually edible without vegetables, so you were forced to pay extra, at £4 per portion of veg!

This really annoyed me. How can they serve a fixed price menu yet demand an extra £8 per person if you want to make it palatable with a couple of potatoes or green beans?!

That's pretty bad Ed, not all of them do that with set menus but I've been to a few that do.

I remember the AIL Team were once treated to a "free" meal at the Savoy, it ended up costing us £170 for all the extras, that's the most expensive free meal I've ever had :speechless:

I've also been to a restaurant that offered a set menu, which we booked, then when we turned up they gave us the standard menu which we assumed was the set menu and ordered, ended up paying twice what we expected.

It's a shame but you've really got to be careful to end up paying the published offer price for your meal.

Anyone else got any experiences like this?

I've never been to a restaurant.

I'd rather a bag of chips with onion vinegar from the local chippy :tongue2:
Occasionally a picked egg too :tongue2:

I'm a cheap date

I really hate it when restaurants just plonk the service charge on as standard just assuming that they've delivered great service that you'll happily stump up 15% for.
I'm not a tight-ass and I haven't got a problem with dropping a tip but I'll decide how much of a tip to pay.

Oh, and by the way scribbling "Thanks!! :)" and a smiley on the bottom of the bill in biro is not going to make me give you anymore money.

Grrr.
