Hi

Im moving down to London in September having just graduated in July and I will be working in Uxbidge. Looking for advice or suggestions on areas to live either north west/west or south west? So far Ive been told to check out harrow, pinner, ealing, richmond, maida vale. Locally after a gym, few shops and bars for during the week, in quite a nice and safe area, which is also accessile to night life further into london at the weekends!
any help would be great!!

thanks

I think that with most areas theres the good bits & the bad bits.
I live in West Kensington & lives most of my life in Hammersmith.
I was happiest when i lived right in Hammersmith, right near the shops, it was clean around there, right near the tube & bus station........ ohhh i miss Hammersmith
Seriously i miss it & its only up the road but West Ken is a **** hole imo.
Don't live around here.... no offense to anyone on here who loves West Ken.

Never lives anywhere else so can't really comment on other areas of West London.

There will be local gyms, shops and bars in most areas, it's just a question of quality. Out of the areas you've mentioned I'd aim for Richmond or Maida Vale, or depending on which part Ealing is ok.

Maida Vale and Richmond might be a bit of a trek to Uxbridge though.

Moving to London is a question of getting the right balance. You need to balance your commute with quality of rented accommodation with quality/proximity to local amenities with distance to the West End with distance to main train stations.

If you concentrate on getting the best flat for your money you'll end up miles away from anywhere and risk being unhappy. If you concentrate on getting as central as you can you'll end up in a rubbish flat and risk being unhappy. If you concentrate on a short commute you'll live too close to work and end up unhappy. You see where I'm going with this?

To do this properly you need to draw a big Venn diagram over a map of London, this will show you were you should live :smug:
