On holiday recently I noticed I have gained a small belly and love handles since last year. I dont know where they came from, but I can't currently justify a £70 a month gym membership here in the city.

ANyone got any tips for losing weight that dont involve not eating?

Get yourself an exercise bike.

I'm about 4 weeks into a fresh attempt at losing the beer gut, lost about half a stone so far. 15-20 minutes most days should start to get rid of the flab.

After about 2 weeks you get to the point where you can't be arsed anymore. This is the critical time, if you get through this you're alright, if not you'll never lose the weight as you're most likely inherently weak minded and will probably die a fat, weak shadow of what you could have been had you stuck at it.

:smug:

Hope that helps,

Good point, snacks are a real killer. One easy thing I've cut out is buying a Mars bar whilst at petrol stations, it's all too easy to grab one of those tasty sons of guns whilst you're in the queue.

Not sure I could cope with cutting down meal sizes though, I think providing you don't eat too much fatty food in your meals you can still have a plate full.

I, most definitely, fall into the latter category :(

Sit-ups are pretty good for the love handles. Sit in the normal sit-up position with your hands to the side of your head - as you raise your body off the ground twist so that your right elbow touches your left knee; and on the next one touch your left elbow on your right knee. Start off with 2 sets of 20... working up to 5 sets of 20 after 4 weeks.

The best all-round exercise though is running, I'm afraid. It's the best way to get your body up to the temperature to begin shedding pounds.
... in our advancing years though this can really take it out of your joints so get yourself a decent pair of running shoes (actually go to a running shop and get these fitted) and try and stick to running on grass as much as possible to prevent your knees from getting beaten on the tarmac.

3 sessions a week of just 30 mins will really help push you in the right direction. If you can do the sit-ups after you've got a sweat on from the running - even better.

Also, don't forget to stretch your limbs out after running.
The ones at the bottom of this page are pretty good:

And AIL Staff's right, if you can get through the first few weeks you'll be fine :)

Good luck!! :scared:

I've started doing a couple of dozen pressups and sit ups every morning whilst my bath is running. I used to go running a lot, but just can't work up an enthusiasm for it at the moment

What you need to do is dance  Oh and keep smiling lol. I would never be bothered to go to the gym, I'm not gonna waste me money on that when I'll just get fed up with it. I've tried doing some exercises at home, but I never stick with it. I've always been an active person, so my weight has always been kept down and I believe it's down to eating WHAT YOU WANT (as long as you stick to a balanced diet) and ALWAYS HAVE BREAKFAST! It terms of exercise, just go out with mates and go clubbing/dancing, go to dance classes, play sports, just keep active! You must find something that will keep you happy and going back for more. Don't do it if you feel it's a chore or else you'll just hate doing it and that's not healthy. Healthy mind, healty body

Yeah that's spot on, you've got to enjoy what you're doing.

That said I'm off to sit down and watch the Olympics with a pasty and a beer. I definitely enjoy wtaching TV and eating pasties and drinking beer... ergo I think I'll manage to keep it up :)

Eddie did you watch the episode of Dragon's Den with the exercise arm chair? You might find that useful.
