From Her Majesty's Torygraph today...

Half of households with more than one child spend at least an hour in heated argument, according to a study looking at how we live behind closed doors, carried out by Channel 4 ahead of a new documentary called The Family.
The series follows the ground-breaking Seventies fly-on-the-wall documentary of the same name.

While families may not alway get along, a majority of teenagers defied stereotypes to admit that they did love their parents. The YouGov poll of 1,000 parents and 500 teenagers found almost half of teenage boys said they would like to marry someone like their mother, while 98 per cent of teenagers admitted they loved their parents.

Nine in ten families sit down for dinner together while 69 per cent of teenagers think family is the most important thing.

Adults also revealed a number of surprising admission, with 13 per cent admitted they have a favourite child. One in five parents also admitted to loving the family pet as much as their children, while a third admitted at least one of their children was unplanned.

Channel 4 said: "The statistics shine a light on various aspects of modern family dynamics. This is an insight into what really goes on and how families relate to each other." The eight-part documentary will be broadcast next month.

Mike Teavee
The Mike Teavee household is a fairly harmonious one.
We don't really argue in our house... just make lots of snidey comments under our breath... which is probably far less healthy than actually having a full-blown row, at least that gets everything out in the open.

34 minutes is quite a lot to be bellowing at each other isn't it?

"One in five parents also admitted to loving the family pet as much as their children"

I don't have any nippers but that seems pretty off. :-?
Isn't it?

I don't have teens, mine are all still young.
We do a fair amount of shouting/raising our voices to the kids.
The 3 youngest are forever fighting but i think that because they are very close in age means they fight more.

As for myself & my husband, we never shout at each other & never fight :)

I just can't imagine being able to shout for 34 minutes - the pitch that I use when I get going can't be sustained for that long!! I just have one little one, so maybe all that joy is to come.

I do find it weird that parents could ever have favourite children though. I certainly never felt that from my parents and can't imagine I'd ever have favourites...again though I guess I'm not there yet so that's easy to say.

I can't even moan at my husband without having the fit of giggles.
I just can't argue with him as i laugh too much.... no idea why.

I don't have favourites but i like different things in each of my kids.

I'd never love a pet as much as my own kids :confused2:

Yes more than 1 of my kids were unplanned..... nothing wrong with that

I've never thrown anything at my parents & my kids haven't thrown anything at me. I just wouldn't do that to my parents, its wrong.

My kids shout at each other all the time. They fight over everything, well the two aged 4 & 3 do. They argue over where they sit when having their dinner, over toys, over who gets the corner seat on the sofa :confused2:

My 7 & 2 year olds don't really get involved in arguements.
