Hey, In Oct we'll be coming down the M11 to visit London for a couple of days, staying in Victoria. thinking of parking at Epping and getting the tube as we have purchased Oyster cards. does this make any sense? any ideas or suggestions greatly appreciated.

Cheers!

If you're travelling on the weekend you can park in lots of residential areas in central London for free, you won't be popular with the residents but there's nothing stopping you parking there.

If you're planning on using a proper secure car park it might well work out cheaper and quicker to leave the car at Epping and use the tube. It's a balance of time/money/practicality.

If you're not planning on buying lots of things I'd take the train the entire journey.

I have to say that drives me nuts

:veryangry:

If we use our car on a Saturday or when Chelsea are playing at home we have no chance at all of getting a parking space in our road. When we have used the car we've had to park 3-4 streets away which is a right pain in the ***.

The council sent out a survey to the people in our parking zone & one of the questions was would be like people to pay for the parking here on Saturdays..... bad day as Chelsea play sometimes & we're close to the local market so people park here.

Something like 67% of the residents said No :bangin: :bangin: :bangin:

We have parking permits so it doesn't mean we have to pay, just the people who come & take the **** & park here for hours on end for free would pay.

I think it would have made people not park for so long.

Rant over

Daisy, I agree completely. When I lived in St John's Wood I had to park about a mile away from our flat some days.

I don't really agree with the weekend/evenings system in London as it stands but just wanted to give the poster all the information ;)

I think parking in residential areas should be permits 24/7 with residents holding a second permit that visitors can use. Job done, Boris if you read that and implement it please put a royalty cheque in the post.

Oh hun i wasn't having a pop at your for saying it.

I just don't get why people get to park here for free when we pay for a residents parking & can't get a space on our own street or even the next street at the weekends.

*friends* ;)

Mogwai, many thanks for the response and common sense approach. & Daisy, rants are ok. IMHO i think any residential area with limited street parking should be permit holders only (with a max of 2 vehicles per residence) with visitors going to a carpark or finding another solution. not to worry, we are visiting mid-week. btw, we recently returned from Prague and there you can get a ticket for under £1, valid for 75 minutes, and it is good on any combination of metro, tram and/or bus. come on Boris, work this out.
