What do you think Art is?

Well i don't think Damien Hurst or Tracey Emin are Artists at all! actually i know they aren't! they don't know what Art is! but Artists like Van Gogh, Velasquez, Matisse etc are artists because they actually make sense! Damien Hurst bought a human skull and stuck diamonds all over it i find that quite disrespectful.

What do you think though?

I amnot a fan or 'modern art' at all. You can stick a button to a wall, say it represents this and that and people will come to see it. And some schmuck will pay to buy it.

One of the worst ones was a guy kicking a piece of rubbish along a street, a couple of years back. How on earth that was art, I don't know.

oh thank goodness for that! i'm very glad you don't like those kind of 'artists'! :) and i agree with you too! my friend went to an art exhibition to the Tate Modern and there was a glass of water that was called an oak tree :-? :-? :-? :-? :-? :-? ooookkk then! :smug: and once i saw a bit of paper scrunched up and it had price tag of £5,000!!! WHAT! anyone can do that!! and a guy kicking a bit of rubbish along the street is ridiculous!

Art to me is something that is pleasing to the eyes or the ears.

However, I do like to see something new, I agree things like a brick wall or a crumpled up bit of paper or an un-made bed is just people trying to be different for the sake of been different.

I'm not a fan of Damien Hurst but what i do like is that he tried to be different, but not for sake of been different. Half a cow suspended in whatever fluid it was, well i thought it was quite clever, it showed skill and intelligence. Ok, not too pleasing to the eye and to everyones taste but still......he had something there !!

Music is art and is more accessible than museum art, and in my opinion so much more personal.

to me art is just a way of expressing your emotions/thoughts creatively

to me art can be anything from movies to music to... interior design.

but stuff like van gough, da vinci is more fine art.

i heard about a picture that was called snow ghost and it was just a piece of white paper, but because it was a ghost in the snow they got away with calling it 'art' now thats pathetic! lol at least damien hirst and tracy emin did SOMETHING with theirs lol

tracy emin is actually a very nice woman too lol i met her at the camden underworld when i went to see a band play that my sister knew. We didnt know it was her we were talking to until we walked out LOL

well i think putting a chopped up animal into a box of fluid is just a chopped up animal in a box of fluid! who would want that in their house? i really don't get it! yeah it can be anything from movies to music to interior design i agree The-PinCushion-Queen :)

Agreed, I wouldn't have it in the house either, but like i said, it has something...... neither would i have a painting of really badly drawn flowers either.

i'm pretty sure "art" is just like the word "consultant". Someone who does a job can call themselves a type of consultant and charge a bullshit amount of money.

same with art. art is a joke - just like before someone was saying the glass of water called an oak tree or a scurnched up piece of paper. wat total bs. n also someone pointed out the TWATS who go and buy it and are like omg its so beautioful and inspirational bs bs bs bs bs bs.

art should be the nice things - like a painting that actually is of someone or a scene that looks better than a photo of the same thing or a sculpture of the same nature - not stinking scribbles on paper or random everyday things named as something else.

art sucks . . . HARD
