Hey all,

I was listening to the radio the other day about how money seems to be a little bit more scarce this Christmas and they were discussing ideas for how best to save money (without looking like too much of a Scrooge)... stuff like:

- Organise a secret Santa with family and/or friends

- Shop online and seek out extra discounts - have to be quick though so that the presents are delivered in time for Christmas

- For Christmas dinner, use a discount or lower-end supermarket for food, seek out special offers and buy alcohol in bulk where possible

- Wrap presents with newspaper

- Organise a "treasure hunt" for the kids by hiding smaller stocking fillers around the house: lots of little gifts that only cost a few pounds but kids love it!

- Set an upper limit for presents amonst family members of say, £10 or £20

- Make your own Christmas cards

Has anyone else got any ideas?

Jingle, jingle!

We did one at the weekend (with a load of mates from uni who all meet up every Christmas)... I got a "spork" (a fork crossed with a spoon) and an all day breakfast in a can... which I ate cold the next morning to help ease a hangover.

I think I came off pretty badly in that Sectret Santa someone got a Hollyoaks 2009 calendar! Grrr. :(

I like those ideas... except the newspaper one. I'd say at least make your own wrapping paper or recycle a box, fill it with shredded coloured paper or brown paper, and put the present inside that. And decorate the box. Is good for small presents like toiletries or socks.

How's that for being creative?

Was in Tescos the other day and saw a "20Q" I think it's called - it's this little round ball with a screen on it... you have to think of a thing, say: "a bottle of wine" and it asks you questions and has to guess what it is in 20 questions. It got was I was thinking every time - it was amazing! That was only £9.99. Great fun. :)
