I went wossailing the other night.

Wossailing is an old pagan ritual they perform in different rural parts of the country on 12th night to encourage a good cider apple harvest next year. It involves Morris Men dancing round apple trees and pouring cider on the gound ad lots of fire.

Sounds bizzarre but it's really good fun. (Honest). Here are a couple of photos I took...

Yeah it was great - we were all given litle staffs with bean-cans on the top full of burning firelighters and then we walked from this pub through a village to the orchard where the wossailing took place. You could see the curtains in people's houses opening and the looks on their faces (what the...?) as this stream of people holding burning tourches walked through the village. It was really cool :)
