Has anyone ever been Wossailing?!

I just posted something on one of the club forums (DJ Pap's photography club) about Wossailing and thought I'd post on the main forum too.

Wossailing is this strange old pagan ritual that is done on 12th night and it's supposed to encourage a good cider apple harvest for the coming year.

I went to one a couple of years ago - and then again to one earlier this week - and they're really good fun.

Basically it envolves some Morris Men dancing around a tree in an orchard singing and dancing and pouring cider on the ground, then they soak a piece of Christmas cake in cider and put it in the fork of the tree and then fire some guns!

... and all of this is done insider a ring of fire!

Yes I must admit, it does sound a bit weird when you read it back.

It's really good fun though - definitely something a bit different to do on a Tuesday night.

PLUS - the lovely Morris Men give you loads of free cider! Happy Result.

If you're interested I've posted a few more pictures on DJ Pap's club forum:

I don't know much about it to be honest but everyone that goes to these things seem to be a pretty nice bunch! :)
