moving near canary wharf

Hi, I'm starting a job in canary wharf soon and I'm just wondering whether it's better to live just north (bow etc) or south (deptford etc)? I have a max £700 a month to spend on renting a flat/studio. I'm young (23) and would quite like to be around similar people.
