Hi, I'm moving to London in April to work for BA based at Heathrow airport. I'm Welsh and currently living in Cardiff...don't know London very well at all! I'll be looking for a flatshare somewhere with good public transport to Heathrow (i don't have a car) but also somewhere quite lively/central since i don't know anyone in London so need to make some friends! I'm 26 and female and have never lived outside Wales so am looking for a safe area too so my mum doesn't worry too much!

Any advice on good areas or areas to avoid?

Cheers N Happy

Hi there N,

If you need to get to Heathrow every day you ideally either need to live close to it or somewhere on the piccadilly line. Driving to and from Heathrow everyday would probably result in a nervous breakdown!

If you want to go out and meet people I'd suggest you try and move as central as you can, Hammersmith is probably your best bet in my opinion.

I'd also suggest the area between Parson's Green and Fulham Broadway which is really nice and lively with lots of young people.. I know it's not on the Piccadilly line, but it's only one change at Earls Court, which doesn't seem too bad... I would def say much nicer than Hammersmith!!

Hope the move goes well!

Thanks for the advice guys. I'm thinking Parson's Green may be a little far from Heathrow...I'm hoping for no more than around 30-45 mins commute cos I'm not too good at getting up in the mornings! Sounds like the kind of place i'm looking for though. Are there any similar areas around Ealing or Acton? I also fancy somewhere quite close to the Thames...it'll make up for no longer living by the coast! Not asking for much am i?! Happy

Well if you dont mind driving, Richmond, Twickenham and teddington areas are good, they are situated on the A316 which turns into the M3. Heathrow is easly accessable from these roads and as your driving out of town the traffic isnt bad either as your going the other way. Richmond has a fast service train into Waterloo too which is good for your nights out in the town.

I'm also moving to London before too much longer, from the misty Midlands. I am going to be working in Morden and looking for a 45 - 60 mins commute tops. I had thought about the Raynes Park/New Malden area (as I also have friends on that rail line) - what are those areas like? I'm also considering Wimbledon or Tooting (too expensive?) or going further out to somewhere like Surbiton (dull?). I don't have a car so I really need to be somewhere with excellent public transport links.

Any tips gratefully received...

Thanks,
Gx

Hi N

The Kingston area would be a good area and very accessible for you. www.kingstonontheweb.com is a good resource to find out more about the area.

Good Luck!

You want to be near Acton town in that case, its on the Piccadilly and District line, short time to both Heathrow and Central london and reasonable prices. And theres loads of shops and bars in Acton High Street
