A friend of mine from Italy, who studied as a hairdresser here in London, told me that at Tony & Guy they sometimes stop people on the sidewalk and ask them if they want to model for a free haircut. Is this frequent? I'm planning to have my hair cut, but I don't want either a half-assed job or to spend a fortune. Any hints? Thanks Happy

Have you checked the Tony and Guy website?

Yes, many big hairdressers do this, or offer cheaper rates for 'models'. It's so the newer hairdressers who are finishing their course, or who have just graduated can have practice. There's always a more experienced hairdresser there though, they don't just hack away.

There's a hair salon that advertises a lot in the Metro for models wanted for free cuts at their academy.

Check out a few websites is my advice, because you don't know when or where you'll walk into one of these people in the street. Also the ones in the street are usually looking for someone with particular length hair, as there are certain styles they ahve to have experience with doing.

Toni & Guy do cuts for £5 at their academies, the quality can vary but is usually very good for the price.

I suppose they might sometimes stop people as they dont get enough models for the students or they need to do a particular style of cut.

It's going to be something radical, so I would be shocked anyway. ;)
