Hi,

I'm 20 years old and I am going to be starting studying in London, this is going to be at the London Uni of Arts so it is located slap bang in Oxford Circus. My friend is going to be coming down with me but to work so student digs are out of the question as we want to live together.

How much roughly would it cost to rent a 2 bedroom flat in London per month or is it best looking for house share?? Also there are sooooo many different areas in London (what with all its boroughs) so i'm confused as to where i should even start looking!!

Were planning on making it happen at the beggining of September so we have given ourselves 7months to correlate as much info as possible.

So any tips and advice on locations, websites and general costings would be brilliant.

Also how hard is it for a student to find work in London??

Here are 4 easy steps:
1) Calm down ;)
2) Look here for a few ads: www.gumtree.com This will give you an idea of the prices and of what's usually offered. Be sure to check back often if you don't find anything that suits you rightaway.
3) Try to learn a bit about the town. Any area has almost anything, but of course it all depends on what YOU are looking for.
4) Good luck :)

I myself found a place to stay on the web a few months prior to my departure, so don't believe who may tell you that the only way is staying at a hostel for a few days looking for ads. I haven't seen many of them around anyway.
I would suggest you to share a house: of course it's cheaper, and you'll have somebody else in your same position to relate with.
Also check tfl.co.uk if you want to see the tube and bus routes.
I hope this helped a bit, I've only been here for 10 days myself!

Cost totally depends on the area but i reckon you could get something pretty decent for £100 per week (possibly including bills) - obviously the more there are sharing the more the cost will come down.

Not sure about the Kings Cross suggestion but I agree with the others above... I would say there is probably more choice of student-friendly areas south of the river...try Balham, Earlsfield and Clapham Junction for some good and lively places that have a few bargains around.

Good luck :)
