One of my pet hates about London is crowds of rowdy Aussies shouting in local pubs. Come on guys this is why we built the walkabout bars, please try and stay in those.

Hello,

Mogwai, it's not only Aussie's who get "rowdy" in London pubs. I've witnessed some pretty bad behaviour from the locals in my local.

All the best,

Don't believe you Mogwai.

Can't believe you found an aussie on this side of the bar.

Hello again,

I do realise that it's not only Aussies who get rowdy in pubs, maybe it's just in my local.

hager, I do occasionally break a smile on my face, but it's not easy when there's a bunch of cretins shouting all kinds of offensive crap in what's otherwise a decent place to enjoy to a relaxing beer. If I pay £3.50 for a pint I want to enjoy it and not have to listen to someone else's conversation from across the pub.

Sorry, it's kinda true about the rowdy thing, people getting so drunk they're vomiting on their own shoes... and why give just the South Africans a hard time for being so vainglorious and racist? I work in an office with many aussies who are so obsessed with how fundamentally superior they are to anyone with pigment I've given in my notice... (true).

Has anyone been to Sydney by any chance?? Has anyone seen how the English behave downunder?? It has to be seen to be believed!! I am neither English or Australian so resperct to you both, but having lived in both countries I can tell you that the reputation that English people have aquired over the years in Australia in the way they behave in pubblic has nothing to be proud of. I did see quite of few Australian here in London out and about displaying little or no class whats so ever, but never as bad as the British in Australia. Simply unbelieveble stuff. I have see more style in a truck driver of Wagga Wagga in New South Wales than in a English "lady" at a Sydney pub. I have travelled the world extensivly and no one behave quite as bad as the English. I have seen things that are hard to believe. Not all the English are like this and not all the Aussie thank God! But Brits in behaving out of place with no respect what so ever are in a lague of their own.

Basically what you have all been discussing, yet without any mention of the word itself, is class. We all feel a sense of culturally conditioned inferiority/superiority depending upon the situation.

Trying to place nationalities and people in this way won't get you very far, it will only highlight your own ignorance and bigotry.

Stay cool. . .

Hi all,

Let's not get into a slanging match between nations here Happy London is a better place for all of the nationalities that are living here.

SuperGeezer, I've seen some appalling behaviour from Brits abroad, I really dread to think what some countries must think of us Sad

Good point wintersydney.

All the best,

Hi All!

Although I do not live in London, (I live in Cornwall so have no wish to live in a city, even one as diverse as London!), I would like to comment on this.

After having played cricket with a number of aussies, at a relatively high standard, you have to give them as good as you get and then you earn their respect! The aussies learn how to play sport hard and they take no 'gimmes' in life, so we need to try and understand that.

As for Brits abroad, I admit that I sometimes feel ashamed to be British. A lot of people seem to think they can go to someone else's country, piss it up, throw it up and generally make a mess and a noise. Well, I don't want to be tarred with that brush! I enjoy going on holiday, twice a year and always like to try different countries, so I consider myself to be fairly well travelled and I have never been to the usual haunts such as Ibiza, Tenerife, Falaraki, Kavos etc., so God only knows what those places are like! Embarassed So, why don't we chill, enjoy the world, enjoy the sunshine and take it easy man!

Well in response to those remarks, I have nothing against Aaustralians... although I have been living next door to a group of them and for the past 6 months this ENORMOUS aussie girl wakes me up bellowing down her phone with a voice that shatters glass, each morning without fail. See what you mean about the sheer volume of them - crazy!
But then thats the only Australian I have ever known so that's my only view thus far.
