London Evening Standard and Nook teem up for the Get London Reading Festival


The London Evening Standard and Nook are hosting a free literary Get Reading festival for children in Trafalgar Square on Saturday 13th July. The free event will see children take part in a read-a-thon with their most loved authors and celebrity storytellers.

The day will feature many celebrities including Rupert Everett who will read from Oscar Wilde, children’s TV character Peppa Pig, actor David Harewood famous for starring in Homeland, children's author Babette Cole, author of Dr Dog and Princess Smartypants, Jonathan Stroud, author of the Bartimaeus Trilogy and Darren Shan, Joey, the horse from stage play War Horse, author Anthony Horowitz, novelist Sally Gardner, actor Warwick Davis, author Marianne Levy, author Steve Cole, actor Sam West and children’s author Anne Fine, Children’s Laureate Malorie Blackman and actress Niamh Cusack. Alongside this, Chairman and Owner of the Evening Standard, Evgeny Lebedev, will be reading with actress Barbara Windsor, MBE. The famous authors and celebrity storytellers will be helping children to take part in a giant read-a-thon throughout the day. The free event is for the whole family and is open to everyone.

The Festival is designed to encourage and support childhood literacy, is open to the whole family and to anyone from London and across the UK.

The Get Reading Festival is the result of a pioneering partnership between London Evening Standard and e-reader Nook.
