All In London Review

Glorious traditional interiors that might keep you longer than you'd banked on

Review Image
There are so many pubs in London with a classic façade at the ready to pique the interest of passersby but they don’t always match the beauty of the exterior with what’s going on inside them. Fortunately, here’s where I tell you that The Enterprise on Red Lion Road in Holborn has it all. A glance at the old boozer from the outside is more than enough to prompt further exploration and once you’re in, if you were not impressed by the décor then we’d have to disagree. From the waxy, textured bottle-green walls to the classic, decorative tiles this is Victorian chic all over. Furthermore, the presence of dark wood, mirrors covering every wall and low-slung chandeliers offers warmth that’s encouraged by the seemingly constant low lighting whether it is night or day.

Restored to its former glory The Enterprise also has an updated beer garden that benefits from coverage and outdoor heaters to keep the cosy factor running into the garden. By now you’ll appreciate that this is a classic London pub, so when it comes to food you can probably hazard a guess at what you’ll find on the menu. Pies, steak, fish & chips and burgers can be found, all for under £10.

Modernity and trends don’t appear on the radar of The Enterprise so for drinks its lager, ale, Guinness and wine all the way. Staropramen and Amstel are the draught beers and wine starts at £15 a bottle. It may not have the greatest choice behind the bar but the drinks aren’t the reason you seek out a pub like this. Despite the occasional quiz nights and weekend DJ’s, the décor is the real entertainment here and the homely local feel makes The Enterprise one of the most attractive old pubs in Holborn.
