All In London Review

Round-the-clock comfort food

You could easily blink and miss this spruced-up greasy spoon opposite Liverpool Street station, despite the fact that it serves food and booze 24 hours a day, seven days a week in a city starved of round-the-clock venues. Moreover, it’s been going since 1953, servicing “builders and bobbies, bankers and bloggers” as their menu proudly states, evidenced by the all-day fry-ups for £6.50 and bottles of Louis Roederer Cristal costing £225.

The hot salt beef sandwich marries slices of juicy, briny meat with fiery English mustard, rich mayonnaise, pickled gherkin and cheesy coleslaw; it’s sinfully pleasurable and is only a fiver. A marbled rib eye steak is equally satisfying, with caramelised onions and chips with the skin on, a great bit of beef for only £12 including the sides.

Elsewhere on the menu there are roasts, pies, afternoon teas and old fashioned puddings, while booze is kept local: beers come from the Camden Town and Redchurch breweries, while wine and fizz are sourced from Chapel Down in Kent.

It's perfect hunger/post-long haul travel/hangover food, not to mention the fact that ordering a hearty meal and an alcoholic beverage after 1 am on a week night induces an exquisitely satisfying feeling. Capital cities can never have too many places like Polo Bar.

Food here is great value, they do quality rib eye steak with chips for just £12 and very tasty fry ups. Their bubble and squeak has bacon, egg and creamy hollandaise, and is the best one I've ever tried. Really good beer selection too.
