Eating at Gauthier Soho’s dining room housed in a Regency townhouse is a good way to experience the sort of formal, uber-discerning restaurant of days gone by. Gauthier trained with master chef Alain Ducasse, so he’s well versed in classic French cuisine. However the food here is contemporary with the odd regulation Asian influence (yuzu and miso pop up on the menu).

Alexis Gauthier earned a Michelin star for this Soho establishment shortly after opening, which it subsequently lost in 2012. And his Twitter feed is thoroughly entertaining, it was he who live tweeted from Soho restaurant Duck Soup about being seated inches away from critics Matthew Norman and Tracey Macleod; scathing is the best way to describe his commentary.

The All In One Ultimate Restaurant List Interview: Alexis Gauthier

Tasty, healthy goodness is just a recommendation away...

Unusually for a Michelin-starred chef, Alexis Gauthier puts the calorie count of each dish on the menu. He is also a big fan of vegetables so they are rarely treated as a mere accompaniment. The reason is that Alain Ducasse-trained Gauthier was diagnosed with fatty liver disease in 2010, and he's had to watch what he eats ever since. For diners this means they can enjoy fine dining while keeping an eye on their waistline.

Turn a good meal into a great meal...

There’s a comprehensive selection of French wine at Alexis Gauthier’s restaurant, most of which hail from south western vineyards.

Side-step the hassle of decision-making

Alexis Gauthier’s healthy fine dining is a bargain at lunchtime, and nowhere else will you eat in such super-chic, elegant surroundings for just £18 for two courses.

This is an ueber-elegant restaurant where you'll definitely want to where your Sunday best! If you're into that kind of thing, then the old-fashioned, town-house style is a real attraction as they pull it off really well. The atmosphere is even more cosy and intimate because it's on a relatively small-scale. You feel like you're eating in someone's home dining room. The tasting menu was spot-on for flavours and unusual dishes (although in all honesty they could lose a few courses and I'd probably have liked it even more). Service was excellent throughout esp the Sommelier.

Lovely restaurant and very good value for Money. Staff are extremely attentive and happy to offer advice or respond to questions. Sommelier was excellent.

Beautiful, elegant and intimate little Michelin-starred restaurant which really lived up to expectations... the tasting menu was top-notch with lots of interesting flavours and for vegetarians there was an equally imaginative and tasty menu to try. They are currently offering a "two for one" on the tasting menu (usually £60 a pop) so it even worked out at decent value considering the very high standards. Just make sure you have 3 hours minimum to spare when you start!
