Big Easy Covent Garden
All In London Review
If you like meat and lots of it then Big Easy will do it for you
Located in an old factory warehouse in Covent Garden, The Big Easy goes to town with a blend of over-the-top interior authenticity that falls somewhere between cringe worthy, confusing and endearing. Slogans adorn the walls, distressed wood cocoons you and irreverent neon lights bathe everything in a dim glow as the décor has the place channeling some form of industrial BBQ shack from the backwoods of an imaginary Deep South. Everything’s bigger in America but Big Easy Covent Garden might just be an exception.
Besides the likes of steak, lobster mac ‘n’ cheese, giant shrimp, Atlantic crab claws and a range of specialty sandwiches, Big Easy has joined the bottomless brunch bandwagon, which is what we’re here to eat. For the bargain price of £29.50 per person, guests can help themselves to unlimited House Brew beer, prosecco or house wine, washing down either the The Big Pig Gig – Limitless Bar.B.Q or the Lobster Fest. While the appeal of lobster rolls and lobster Mac ‘n’ Cheese are strong, we opt for the meat and spend our two hours filling up on pit smoked chicken, North Carolina chopped pork, St. Louis pork ribs and smoked pit beans, all the while seeing our mighty platter replenished with fresh cuts whenever we get low. For the sensible eater, the prize of unlimited Big Easy BBQ is a bargain, for the greedy (that’s us) it’s a no-brainer. And while the unlimited nature of the brunch will always appeal to those with eyes bigger than their bellies, the quality of the meat as is surprisingly good as well for an outfit of this size.
The only things we missed out on were the alcoholic house slushies and a trip to sample something special from one of the mightiest back bars you’ll ever see. Still, it was only 3pm, so probably a good thing having already seen some friendly, super efficient waiting service that never allowed our beer glasses to get empty.
If you like meat and lots of it then Big Easy will do it for you. The atmosphere is loud and brash – think birthdays, hen parties and stag dos - and it has the unmistakable feel of a place you might see on Man Versus Food, in a good way.
