A London design company has turned art curator for a unique showcase, providing a platform for up-and-coming art students to display their work to the public.

After a six-month-long search among students at Middlesex University, gpstudio in Southwark has selected a group of outstanding new artists, who will each be given a three-month display in the company’s Arch Window display on Great Suffolk Street.

The first artist’s work, which was unveiled this month, is a beautiful creation of three metal roses, which were inspired by Vienna Barbetti’s grandmother, who suffered from Alzheimers.

During her battle with the illness, Barbetti’s grandmother would use her favourite flower to recall fond memories, and the work explores the way in which our recollections fade and distort between reality and fantasy.

Following Barbetti’s display, Fine Art student Natalie Law will showcase her piece, called ‘Umbrella Revolution.’

An eye-catching sculpture consisting of a series of intertwined, transparent umbrellas holding white spheres, ‘Umbrella Revolution’ is a unique piece of work as it changes every time it is displayed, to interact with the space and the location in which it is shown.

The Hong Kong-born artist claims that she embraces her ‘disorganised nature’ and that her work becomes a ‘random, ever-changing’ sculpture that reflects its surroundings.

The curators, gpstudios’ partners Gregor Jackson, Stuart Naysmith and Chris Poulton, are currently finalising the artists who will fill the space early in 2016.

“Art and creativity is hugely important to us as a company", says Gregor Jackson, “and we strongly believe in our responsibility to help nurture young talent.

“We have a great space on a busy thoroughfare in an area of London populated by art galleries including the world famous Tate Modern. So it’s a perfect way for us to give these artists a platform to art lovers who are passing by."
