Love Lived: A Photographic Exhibition from Breakthrough Photographer Holly Wren Tells a Timeless Tale of Ageless Love

London, January 10, 2016. The Broadgate Tower, EC2, is home to a debut exhibition of impressive ambition from newcomer Holly Wren in association with charity Contact the Elderly, set to run until mid-summer. The lovingly printed originals on display are accompanied by short biographies and video interviews via www.LoveLived.co.uk which recount the feeling and processes of falling in love for the aged protagonists.

For Wren, the project quickly took on its own significance, she said: “It’s very hard not to be moved by the stories of Love Lived – and I truly hope that the images do them justice. There’s a universality about people’s attitude to love – once you’ve experienced it through the eyes of a few of our wonderful sitters, you’ll recognise a love you’ve felt, dressed in the clothes and social expectations of a bygone era. It’s impossible to see the exhibition and not personally identify with several of the subjects - it was the most fulfilling project to undertake and I’m thrilled with the result.”

Each of the 14 subjects of the exhibition, which is free to attend by arrangement, is over the age of 70 and was interviewed about the loves of their life towards the end of 2015. Their candid tales of heart-racing love, enduring friendship, convenience, careers, families, arguments, regrets and joy prove that there is nothing new under the sun; but the wisdom and honesty of the portraits and their words is a window into an often marginalised resource.

Contact the Elderly, the charity partner for the exhibition has been organising tea parties throughout the UK for people aged 75 or over who live alone with little to no support from friends, family or statutory services since 1965. The charity’s whole approach is about combating loneliness amongst isolated older people, such Jim, Iris and Chitra, who all share their stories as part of Loved Lived.

Contact the Elderly’s CEO, Mary Rance, is in full support of the exhibition. “We’re so proud to be involved in such a powerful photography exhibition,” said Rance, “We hope that people who experience it will be encouraged to think more about the older people in their lives and in their communities, and that they will feel inspired - as we do - to extend our vital lifeline of friendship. Holly’s images capture so much life, soul and humanity. They are a fantastic way of showing just how much older people have to offer the wider community.”

The exhibition is on display at First and Second Floor Lobbies, The Broadgate Tower, London, EC2A 2EW from 10th January 2016 – 10th June 2016. For more information visit lovelived.co.uk and for directions to the exhibition visit The Broadgate website.
